Au 19ème siècle, 2 écoles sont construites :
- Une école pour les filles,
- Une école pour les garçons
Les 2 écoles sont construites sur les anciens fossés de la ville.
Un fossé est un trou creusé dans la terre
qui entoure et protège un lieu.
La place entre les 2 écoles est baptisée place Jules Ferry.
Jules Ferry était un homme politique
qui a fait en sorte que tous les enfants puissent aller à l’école.
Aujourd’hui, dans ces 2 bâtiments, il y a des services publics :
- Le Centre Communal d’Action Sociale (CCAS),
- L’Agence Départementale de la Solidarité,
- L’Espace Culturel avec sa Galerie d’Art,
- La Maison des Associations.

The Schools
In 1867, two schools existed: one Catholic, the other Protestant. They were named the 'Jules Ferry school group' and were built between 1881 and 1883, on the ditches to the east of the village, on either side of the road to Montpellier.
These buildings represent one of the most important achievements of the last quarter of the century. They mark the limit of the village and stand opposite each other. The square between the two schools was renamed "Place Jules Ferry". The schools are imposing, with their highlighted facades by ashlars and terraces with balusters.
Transformed into the Jules Ferry primary schools and the Jacques Prévert nursery school, the buildings have been renovated to accommodate new public service missions: CCAS and the Departmental Agency (in 1997 for the Jules Ferry school), and the Cultural Space with an Art Gallery and the House of Associations (in 2020 for the Jacques Prévert school).
